Care Instructions
Keep it clean.
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth to keep the carved details clear and the surface bright. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth or a mild soap solution, then dry immediately. Avoid harsh chemicals or polishes that can strip the natural oils.
Protect it from sunlight.
Direct sun can fade walnut’s deep brown tones and dry the surface of any wood. Maple, being lighter, may gently warm to a golden hue over time, a natural sign of aging, not damage. Keep the box out of strong, continuous light to preserve its original colour.
Mind the air.
Wood moves with moisture. Stable indoor humidity keeps the box true to shape — too dry and it may shrink; too damp and it can swell. Maple, being denser and lighter, is slightly more sensitive to humidity swings than walnut.
Nourish occasionally.
Once or twice a year, apply a touch of natural flaxseed or beeswax oil with a soft cloth. Walnut benefits from periodic oiling to maintain its depth and lustre; maple requires it less often to prevent uneven darkening. Let the oil soak in fully before buffing away any excess.
Handle with care.
Avoid dropping or overloading the box. Its tight joinery is designed to last, but gentle use keeps the fit and movement precise.
Over time, both walnut and maple develop a soft sheen and deeper tone — the quiet marks of a well-kept piece, aging with dignity and use.
